Anonymous asked: i have shoulder length, thin, straight hair. any advice on how to make it look curly and volumized? any hairstyle suggestions?

Answer:

First of all, anything meant for curly hair as far as shampoo, conditioner or styling products go will NOT give you instantly curly hair. Unfortunatley you’ll need to create those curls.

You’ll want to start with some kind of volumizing, thickening shampoo and conditioner. In general, you’ll want to use the same one from the same system as mixing with other types doesn’t allow it to work properly. You’ll need some kind of prep product with a medium hold like a liquid gel, foam or cream. Anything with a firm hold will be too heavy for your hair. Then you’ll want some kind of root lifter in combination.

Blow dry with a round brush if possible, or just with your head upside down if that’s easier. Then curl your hair with a desired size iron, hot rollers, etc. Use a medium to firm hold aresol spray (sprays less and more evenly) then finger out the curls to loosen them. For more volume, back comb at the root. Finish with more hair spray.

Some reccomendations for you:

Aveda’s Pure Abundance line, including shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and root lifting hair potion. ($16 and up)

Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening ShampooConditioner and Serum. ($23 and up)

Aveda’s Volume Pack including Phomoliant styling foam, Volumizing Tonic and Control Force aerosol spray. ($34, a $40 value.)

Kevin Murphy Powder Puff Volumizing Powder. ($19 on Amazon!)

Hope this helps you out!
