I received a question recently on how to style hair like Marilyn Monroe. There’s two ways I’ll explain, but note that there are several paths to this final result! For this look, I’ll be assuming you’re starting with around chin to collar bone length hair. For variations and product reccomendations, check the end of this post.

Wet Set - Prep time is one hour, plus over night.
*Need products, spray bottle to keep hair wet if needed, bobby pins and scarf or kerchief.

Thermal Set - About 20-30 minutes.
*Need products, 1” curling iron (or desired) and pin curl clips or bobby pins.

There’s several ways to do the hair bow, but this is a pretty basic way to do it on yourself!

Can’t seem to get the right cut? Looking for something new? It’s important to keep in mind what will look the best and work with your face shape! ALWAYS keep in mind to get a style that fits your lifestyle, such as something that doesn’t require work if you aren’t willing to put in the time to style it. Here are some examples for what to think about when getting your next hair cut.
Oval
Your forhead down to your chin is pretty semetrical and your cheek bones are slightly wider. Lucky you! You have the most universal face shape! You can pretty much get away with any style. You get to choose which facial features you want to highlight. Usually getting some face framing layers starting at that feature (such as your lips or cheekbones) are the best way to show them off. Love your eyes? Get some fun bangs! Layers are a must however, as fine hair will get limp and boring and curly hair can get triangular and out of control. Or just chop it off! Oval faces are perfect for a pixie or an asymetrical bob.

Round
If the width of your face is about the same as the length, you have a round face. You don’t have strikingly sharp features and your cheeks are a little on the larger side. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a very classic shape! This shape requres longer, gentle waves and layers, should generally be longer than your chin, and looks best with a natural wave or curl. Bangs look good, and should either be blunt and slightly rounded, or piecy and to the side.

Square
Almost the same as a round face, a square one should measure about the same all around. However the difference is all in angles! Strong defined jaw lines, brows and cheeks. You’re able to pull off super long mermaid hair that every girl secretly wants. When going short, it’s best to play up more asymetrical shapes with lots of texture. You don’t really need bangs or face framing and it’s generally best not to as it could make your face a bit more harsh. However when done right in a soft and blended way, it can help to soften some of those angles. If you do want to incorporate some fringe in your style, I suggest a longer and fluid bang.

Heart
A heart shaped face is a little self explanitory, with your forehead and cheekbones in line, all decending along your jaw into a sharper chin. The most important thing to remember is that bangs are your best friend! They soften from your brows up so as to distract from your forehead. Luckily this shape works great with long, medium and super short hair. Just remember bangs!

Long
Obviously, this shape consists of a noticably lenth compared to the width of your face. When looking for a style you’ll want to choose something that will add width so side bangs, voluminous bobs and touseled layers. Avoiding alot of length is adivised as it adds more length to your face, but if you prefer longer hair, add some texture and avoid stick straight.
